MINUTES: The minutes from the June meeting were approved. Jill Hightower made the motion and Scott Crump seconded the motion. All present approved.

CONDUCTING: Scott Crump conducted the meeting.

• A big welcome to Maynard Berg (class of 1961) to the board.

• Monument in Copperton
The monument ceremony on July 4th at Copperton Park was a big success. The monument is in place. Additional funds will be used to place a copper plaque by the monument to explain the historical significance of the monument. Maynard Berg (Senior Class President 1961 and founder of the Copperton Bingham High School Memorial Foundation) explained the process and emphasized that it was his idea but was a team effort (many people were involved in the completion of the project)! Bill Nicholes (class of 1955) was the architect of the plan. Maynard noted that donations can be made at Mountain America Credit Union. (BHSC Acct. #10141458). Donations can also be made for this project (and the permanent “B” on the mountain) through Jordan Education Foundation for a tax-exempt status. The memorial project is estimated at $10,000 maximum cost. The alumni board commended Maynard and his committee for their hard work and dedication in completing this project.

• White Washing the B
Mr. Steve Saltas (class of 1978) from Rio Tinto attended our meeting. He stated that all managers at Rio Tinto are on board with plans for our white washing field trip. Kathy Wadsworth (class of 1976) will be helping Steve.
Saturday, September 17th is the date for this event…the kick-off for Homecoming festivities. Students and staff will meet at Bingham High at 8:00 a.m. and leave at 8:30 a.m. after a short safety orientation. Mr. Saltas reviewed all of the details. Mrs. Richards-Khong will reserve two buses and have all student signature forms completed. Students will be required to wear sturdy hiking shoes or boots (close toed). Long sleeve shirts, long pants, a hat and sunscreen are highly suggested. Water is a must! Students are asked to bring a small bucket, a gallon size milk container full of water, whiskbrooms, paintbrushes, and loppers to cut the sagebrush. Rio Tinto will supply gloves and garbage bags. They will also help with purchasing the paint needed. Scott, Chris and Steve will meet at Home Depot to make the purchase. Large rolls of heavy plastic are needed to cover the seats of the buses. 6 or 8 representatives from Rio Tinto will be on site to give a short plant tour, a safety orientation and oversee the activity. An EMT will also be available. New agencies will be attending to report on this activity. The board and Bingham High students and staff appreciate the cooperation and support of Rio Tinto. The Board extends a BIG thank you to Steve Saltas for his help in making this possible. It’s really going to happen this year!
• Permanent “B” on the Mountain
There will be further discussion at our next meeting.

Chris Richards-Khong challenged students who attended the Principal’s Round Table (officers, team captains, club leaders, etc.) to attend an activity that they’ve never attended before. She emphasized the importance of getting connected by inviting another person to an activity. She also emphasized that being a leader involves helping and serving others and bringing that quality out in others.
Scott Crump oriented the new officers by taking them to Copperton and then taking a tour of the building with an explanation of Bingham High School history and the significance of many of the items in the hallways, the library, and the alumni room.
